By the ITS Holidays Team — Umrah & international travel specialists, Dhaka Last updated: 3 November 2026
France is the most visited country in the world, with 102 million international tourist arrivals in 2024. Spain follows with 93.8 million, then the United States with 72.4 million, Türkiye with 60.6 million and Italy with 57.7 million. Globally, the world recorded an estimated 1.52 billion international tourist arrivals in 2025, about 60 million more than in 2024 — which means the ranking below has shifted at the margins but kept the same leaders.
This guide lists the top 50 most visited countries with their latest verified arrival figures, explains what each destination is genuinely best for, and shows how a traveller from Bangladesh can realistically plan a trip to the ones that matter most.

How this ranking is measured
The list ranks countries by international tourist arrivals — the number of non-resident visitors who stay at least one night in the destination. The figures come from UN Tourism and the national tourism boards that report to it, with 2024 as the last complete calendar year of data for every country below.
Three caveats matter when you read any list of the most visited countries:
- Arrivals are not tourists. Some countries count same-day visitors, cruise passengers or returning expatriates differently, which inflates totals.
- Small destinations can rank high. Countries with tiny populations but busy borders — Andorra, Bahrain, Macao — appear because arrivals are measured in absolute numbers, not per capita.
- Figures are provisional. National statistics offices revise their numbers, sometimes by several percent, months after publication.

The top 10 in detail
1. France — 102.0 million arrivals
France has held the top spot for decades because it offers something for every travel style in a single, well-connected country: Paris, the Riviera, the Alps and the wine regions sit within a few hours of each other by rail. Best for: first-time Europe trips, art and food, and travellers who want a compact multi-city itinerary.
2. Spain — 93.8 million arrivals
Spain grew roughly 10% in 2024, the strongest rise among the top five. Beaches, Moorish architecture in Andalusia and Barcelona’s design scene drive volume, while high-speed rail makes Madrid–Seville–Valencia easy to combine. Best for: summer beach holidays with culture built in.
3. United States — 72.4 million arrivals
The United States is among the highest-spending destinations on the list and covers every kind of trip: New York city breaks, national parks, Florida theme parks and West Coast road trips. Best for: long-haul trips of ten days or more, and visiting family.
4. Türkiye — 60.6 million arrivals
Istanbul bridges Europe and Asia, and the country pairs that with Cappadocia, the Aegean coast and some of the best-value hospitality in the Mediterranean. Connecting flights through Istanbul also make it a natural stopover on the way to Europe. Best for: culture plus shopping, and family groups.
5. Italy — 57.7 million arrivals
Rome, Florence and Venice carry the cultural weight, but Italy’s real strength is regional variety — the northern lakes, Puglia in the south, Sicily offshore. Best for: art, history and food-led itineraries.
6. Mexico — 45.0 million arrivals
Mexico combines Caribbean beaches with Mayan ruins and colonial cities, and it is one of the few destinations where an all-inclusive resort stay and a serious archaeology trip can share one itinerary. Best for: beach-plus-culture holidays.
7. United Kingdom — 41.8 million arrivals
London remains the biggest single draw in Europe for long-haul visitors, supported by Scotland’s Highlands and the university cities. Many Bangladeshi families combine sightseeing with visiting relatives. Best for: city breaks, heritage and family visits.
8. Germany — 37.5 million arrivals
Germany’s appeal is spread across Berlin, Munich, the Rhine valley and the Bavarian Alps, with Christmas markets extending the city-break season into December. Best for: rail travel, history and winter city breaks.
9. Japan — 36.9 million arrivals
Japan posted one of the largest rebounds of any major destination, rising from 25.1 million arrivals in 2023. Cherry-blossom season, Tokyo’s food scene and the bullet-train network make it unusually easy to travel independently. Best for: first-time Asia long-haul trips and food travel.
10. Greece — 36.0 million arrivals
Greece pairs island hopping with Athens’ archaeology, and its shoulder seasons — May, June and September — offer the same scenery at lower prices than July and August. Best for: island holidays and honeymoons.
What the numbers reveal about travel in 2026
- Europe still dominates. The region recorded 793 million international arrivals in 2025, 6% above pre-pandemic levels, and accounts for more than half of the top 50.
- Asia is closing the gap fast. Asia-Pacific arrivals reached 331 million in 2025, up 6% year on year, though still about 9% below 2019. Japan, Vietnam and South Korea are the clearest beneficiaries.
- The Middle East is the strongest performer against 2019. The region drew close to 100 million visitors in 2025, roughly 39% above pre-pandemic levels, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
- Value destinations are climbing. Albania, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Bulgaria are all in the top 50 now — countries that were marginal on arrival counts a decade ago and now compete on price.
Where Bangladeshi travellers fit in
Ranking popularity globally is not the same as being easy to reach from Dhaka. Three practical filters decide which of these 50 countries are genuinely realistic for a Bangladeshi passport holder:
- Visa access. Bangladeshi ordinary passport holders need a visa in advance for most of this list, including Thailand and Malaysia — Bangladesh is not on Thailand’s 2026 visa-exemption scheme and remains on Malaysia’s visa-required country list. Applications are mostly online now, but documents must match the itinerary exactly and processing takes days, not hours.
- Flight connections. Destinations with direct or one-stop flights from Dhaka — Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah and Riyadh — are far cheaper and simpler than two-stop routings to Latin America.
- Cost per day. South and South-East Asia typically cost a fraction of Western Europe per day, which is why they dominate first-time international travel from Bangladesh even though they rank lower globally.
Saudi Arabia, at number 13 with 29.7 million arrivals, is a special case: a large share of those visitors arrive for Umrah and Hajj rather than leisure. If that is your reason for travelling, our complete Umrah package booking guide covers visa, hotels and costs in detail.
For the rest of the list, the sensible starting point is a destination that matches your visa profile and budget rather than the global top ten. A well-planned five-day Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur trip usually delivers more value than a rushed seven-country Europe tour.
How to plan a trip to any country on this list
Whichever destination you choose, the sequence below prevents the most common and expensive mistakes:
- Fix dates around the destination’s season, not your leave calendar. Japan in April and Greece in August are the same countries at several times the price.
- Check visa processing time before booking flights. Embassy appointments and e-Visa approvals can take longer than expected in peak season.
- Compare package inclusions line by line. Two apparently similar packages often differ on airport transfers, daily breakfast and city taxes.
- Confirm the cancellation policy in writing. Read the terms before paying a deposit, not after.
- Book through an agency with a physical office and a named contact if your trip involves visas, families or groups. Our guide to choosing the right travel agency in Bangladesh for international trips lists the checks worth doing.

Frequently asked questions
Which country is the most visited in the world?
France, with 102 million international tourist arrivals in 2024. Spain is second at 93.8 million and the United States third at 72.4 million.
Which Asian country gets the most visitors?
Japan leads the Asian destinations in this list with 36.9 million arrivals in 2024, ahead of Thailand (35.5 million) and Malaysia (25 million). Türkiye, counted partly as West Asia, recorded 60.6 million.
Is the top 50 list the same as the best countries to visit?
No. Arrival counts measure volume, not quality. Destinations outside the top 50 — the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan among them — are often better value and far easier to reach from Bangladesh.
Do Bangladeshis need a visa for these countries?
For almost all of them, yes, and it should be arranged before departure. Visa rules change often, so confirm the current requirement on the destination’s embassy or immigration portal before you pay for flights.
